GSK ASCI Webring

Challenge

Cancer remains a major cause of death and there remains a need for highly efficient and safer therapies. Therefore, GSK Biologicals is developing a novel approach to treat cancer based on Antigen-Specific Cancer Immunotherapeutic(s) or ASCI(s). ASCIs aim at educating the patients’ own immune system to fight the tumor. This process, which is common for pathogens such as viruses and bacteria, is intended to be harmless for the organism and therefore should elicit very few side-effects in comparison with other anti-tumor treatments. Once administered, the ASCI technique is expected to trigger a specific immune response to eliminate the tumor cells.

As this new healing method is entering the test phase to determine how safe and how efficient ASCI is, GSK Biologicals wanted to use Internet, on top of usual methods, to communicate about ASCI towards general public, patients and physicians. Consequently, GSK Biologicals wanted to develop an Internet presence pursuing three end goals:

1. To inform journalists and healthcare professionals about the ASCI treatment and the leading role of GSK Biologicals
2. To spread the word about the ASCI treatment Engage “patients” to enroll in GSK trials.
3. To help them find the nearest clinical center where they can join the trials

Execution

In order to meet these objectives, Emakina created a webring made of three connected websites providing three different levels of information, depending on your status: a journalist, a healthcare practitioner or a patient.

1. GSK ASCI: GSK-branded website targeting general audience, journalists and healthcare practitioners about the ACSI treatment: what are ASCIs, mechanism of action etc.
2. Immunotherapy for Cancer: generic website focusing on lung cancer patients looking for new methods to heal their disease: what you should know about cancer, how therapy can teach your own immune system to fight cancer, what makes ASCI unique etc. This website also contains a strong "call to action" to volunteer to participate in a clinical trial.
3. ASCI Trials: website providing practical info to patients who want to enter the ASCI trial: study center locators (based on Google map), participation criteria, frequently asked questions about clinical studies etc.
